Our company

EF-mark specialises in industrial marking and coding equipment for manufacturers and packagers. We help businesses print dates, batch codes, barcodes and variable data directly onto products and packaging, so that every item leaving the line is correctly labelled and traceable.

Our range includes thermal transfer and direct thermal label printers for boxes, pallets and primary packaging; continuous inkjet coders for non-contact printing on cans, bottles, cartons and film; and consumables such as thermal ribbons and inks. Whether you run a single line or multiple sites, the goal is the same: clear, durable codes that meet regulatory requirements and survive handling and storage.

We work with food and beverage producers, pharmaceutical and chemical manufacturers, logistics and distribution centres, and anyone who needs to mark products at speed. The equipment we supply is chosen for reliability and ease of integration. Many of our printers and coders slot into existing lines with minimal downtime and can be driven by your current labelling or ERP software.

  • Thermal label printers for barcodes and expiry dates on labels and tags
  • Inkjet coders for date and batch coding on porous and non-porous surfaces
  • Ribbons, inks and other consumables matched to your application
  • Support for integration, maintenance and troubleshooting

Choosing the right technology depends on your substrate, line speed, required code life and environment. Thermal transfer is ideal when labels must stay legible for years; inkjet is often the answer when you need to mark directly onto packaging without labels. We can help you narrow down the options and configure equipment so it fits your process from day one.

Frequently asked questions

Thermal transfer printing uses a ribbon that is heated by the printhead to transfer ink onto the label. The result is durable, smudge-resistant print that stays legible for years, which makes it suitable for logistics, cold storage and any application where labels must withstand handling and time. It is often chosen over direct thermal when long-term readability is required.

Continuous inkjet coders project a stream of ink droplets toward the surface. Charged droplets are deflected to form characters or barcodes; uncharged droplets are recycled. Because there is no contact with the product, CIJ is well suited to curved or fragile packaging and high line speeds. It can print on cardboard, plastic, metal and film.

Yes. Our thermal printers and inkjet coders support standard communication protocols such as serial and Ethernet. They can be driven by your labelling software, ERP or line controllers. We can advise on connectivity and message formats so that variable data (dates, batch codes, barcodes) is sent correctly from your system to the printer.

We supply inks and ribbons that are suitable for food and pharmaceutical applications where codes may come into contact with products or packaging. Formulations comply with relevant regulations. If your application has specific requirements, we can help you select the right consumable.

We offer technical support for setup, troubleshooting and maintenance. This includes guidance on print quality, connectivity and consumable selection. For urgent issues, we can help you diagnose problems remotely and, where needed, arrange service or parts so that downtime is kept to a minimum.

Thermal printing is used when you apply pre-printed or blank labels and need to print variable data (dates, barcodes) onto them. Inkjet is used when you print directly onto the packaging or product without a label. Substrate, line speed, code size and required durability all play a role; we can help you compare options for your specific application.
