Thermal Transfer Ribbons

Thermal transfer ribbons are the consumable that determines how long your codes stay readable. EF-mark supplies ribbons in three main types: wax, wax-resin and resin. The right choice depends on your label material, print speed and the conditions the label will face after application.

Wax ribbons are the most economical and work well on paper labels in indoor or controlled environments. They are suitable for shipping labels, picking labels and many primary packaging applications where the label is not exposed to abrasion, moisture or heat. Print quality is good for standard barcodes and text at typical line speeds.

Wax-resin ribbons offer a balance of cost and durability. The mix of wax and resin improves resistance to smudging, light moisture and moderate abrasion. They are often used on coated paper and some synthetic labels where a wax ribbon would not adhere properly. Recommended for labels that may be handled frequently or stored in cool or humid areas.

Full resin ribbons are for demanding applications. They adhere strongly to synthetic and coated materials and produce very durable print that can withstand chemicals, moisture and abrasion. Typical uses include labels for chemical containers, outdoor or cold-store applications and any environment where long-term legibility is critical. Resin ribbons run at slightly lower speeds and are more expensive per metre, but the cost per reliable mark can be lower when label failure is costly.

Ribbon width and core size are matched to your printer and label roll. EF-mark ribbons are compatible with our own industrial printers and with many industry-standard units. Consistent coating density across the roll helps maintain print quality from first to last label and reduces the risk of voids or smudging that can cause scan failures.
